Resources for Digital Environments

Publication Outline

Our publication is all about helping teachers implement student ownership over their learning through ePorfolios, and if they aren’t ready to tackle building websites with their students yet, they can use the tracking sheets to slowly implement change in their classrooms.  Our final draft has been sent off for publication, so I couldn’t post it on my site.  Hopefully, it gets published, but if it doesn’t I will post it here.  The outline shows how we organzied our thoughts for the publication.

HAVING A VOICE IN YOUR LEARNING....it's the only way to learn.

I have been a big fan of the importance of having and using your voice in learning. The COVA approach to learning is the main skill I want to bestow onto every educator that I have the opportunity to influence.  My philosophy on learning shares the importance of voice being a foundational aspect of the learning process.  Sharing my voice with a larger audience using digital resources put more tools in my educational “backpack.”  I have always known having a voice was important but lacked confidence in using my voice.  Being able to express myself in different ways has helped strengthen my voice.  I plan to use what I have learned from my experiences in this course to influence change in teachers at my school this coming year.

In 5389, I created an online student course for the first six weeks of school to establish routines in reading and a PD course that allows teachers to learn through modeling how they will implement blended learning with station rotations for the first six weeks in reading.  The student course teaches them how to set goals, track their own reading, and give and receive feedforward from peers.  The teachers will pull students or have a rotation set up and guide them through the first six weeks while also holding them accountable.  This is the online student course for reading in 4th grade for the first six weeks.  I also created a professional development course to support teachers in a lab setting that simulates what students will do as they establish routines.

As I was creating my innovation plan, I became intrigued by learners owning their learning. I hope to grow lifelong, self-aware, and self-motivated learners using the COVA approach.  I created student tracking sheets similar to an ePortfolio and will eventually add student ePortfolios.  My district doesn’t have an engaging online reading program, so I devised another way to engage students.  I tried this out and adjusted where needed last year with my students, so most of the kinks have been worked out.

Let's Talk Blended Learning!

Watch this YouTube discussion I was apart of with my peers Alessa Burg, Desiree Masters, and Taylor Burks about why blended learning is the future of education!
