Time to Graduate

5320 Captston//Contributions to My Learning and Learning Environment

Throughout this program, I have felt overwhelmed and struggled to get started.  I didn’t even have time to get overwhelmed by this last course because the start of this school year has been a whirlwind.  I have found more confidence in myself as a teacher and leader, and I am so thankful for this program and all it has given me.  My peer group has gotten much stronger, making it that much easier to share my “raw” work with them for feedforward.  Although my peer group was cut in half, I still had Ashley Brandes, Leslie William, and Desiree Masters.

I enjoy working with my group and collaborating through text messaging, WhatsApp, and Facebook messenger.  We had to make some adjustments during this course because our group became smaller but tighter.  Leslie is not in capstone yet, but we still collaborated with her and plan to be there for her throughout her ADL journey.

The capstone class has been a little emotional for me as I put everything together and start to think about my future.  I am excited for whatever is ahead for me and so proud of myself for making it through in 18 months while teaching full-time, going through a divorce, and learning more about myself.  I have learned so much in this program.  I recognize my fixed mindset when she starts to show up, I smile a lot more when I make mistakes and embrace them more.  I have purchased copies of Crucial Conversations for friends and family because that book opened my eyes to many things about myself that need work and probably always will.  The ADL program helped me find my voice and gave me the tools and knowledge to be a catalyst for change in education.  Reflecting on my innovation plan in 5320 allowed me to see how much I have changed throughout this program and how much my plan has changed from when I started.  I was a COVA believer from the beginning and love what it has brought me as a learner and an influencer for change.  Believing in COVA helped me realize that my original plan wasn’t working, and that I needed to adjust.  And adjust.  And adjust even more.  I linked a few of my projects below.  Creating the pitch video for change in how teachers learn was when the switch flipped for me, and then creating the online professional learning courses in 5389.  I realized I had more in me than just teaching one room of students each year.  I want to do something bigger for education or help people find more choice, voice, and ownership over their learning by creating significant learning environments.

My website-building days are just starting to finally take off.  The only time I lost my cool (cried) in this program was about 4 weeks into the program when I couldn’t figure out where my pages were going after I had created them and added my material.  I found out BlueHost was a new company, and they had some bugs to fix.  I decided to just put all my assignments on my blog.  I’ve been working hard to make new pages when I have big chunks of time to focus on my website.  I have learned what plugins and widgets are and how to create templates and themes.  I chose WordPress.  I put my voice into my website, and I love telling people I built my website.  I’m also excited to always have this tool where I get to share my voice and continue to build on it and watch it evolve.   I wish I had screenshots of some of the pages from June 2021.

I have revised all of my assignments and reflected on the revisions.   I completed all of the course readings, videos, and supporting resources.  My assignments have been turned in on time.  I contributed to my learning and the learning of my peers by participating in all work that was shared with me and most of the discussion posts.  My groups had more discussions on the modules within our apps than on the actual discussion board.  In addition, I posted in-depth posts with some research to support my thinking, ideas for upcoming assignments, and past projects that were also helpful, and did so promptly so that others could respond to my posts.  I wish I had more time for self-reflection after reading the course material and had more time to post more meaningful discussions.  I feel I deserve an A for this course.
